My Portable Paradise

I have a portable Jannah (Paradise) within my heart. It goes with me, wherever I go. I don’t fear the loss of physical possessions, but I really treasure this metaphysical sweetness of Imaan (faith).
“Anyone who possesses three attributes will experience the sweetness of faith (iman): that he loves Allah and His Messenger more than anything else; that he loves someone for the sake of Allah alone; and that he hates the idea of reverting to disbelief, after Allah has released him from it, as much as he would hate being thrown into fire.”

In the past couple of decades we’ve witnessed numerous singers, artists and models reverting to the true faith. Their fame, their money couldn’t help them earn inner peace. So, they began their quest for it and ended up returning to the true nature (fitrah) on which they were born, testifying the challenge of Qur’an: “…for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction”. [1]
Al-Ghazali in his book ‘the Alchemy of Happiness’ [2] elaborates how the heart of a disbeliever can turn into a living hell, which he calls the hell of the heart. You can have all the luxuries that guarantee easy living at your disposal, but your inner self might still be screaming to you, reminding you that this is not ‘life’. On the other hand, a person with no tangible resources might be enjoying an inner gratification that you can’t even imagine.
Everyone in this world is on an intentional or unintentional hunt for inner gratification. There are people who reached the truth, and experienced true gratification in the one and only mode of life acceptable to Allah: Islam. There are those who claim to believe Allah, but are servants of their Nafs, money or fame. There are those who are continually searching for the lost peace, in tangible worldly resources. And, there are those, whose hearts are sealed, and can no longer hear the screams of the inner self or see the big sign boards pointing towards the truth, all around.
I have a portable Jannah (Paradise) within my heart. It goes with me, wherever I go. I don’t fear the loss of my physical possessions, but I really treasure this metaphysical sweetness of Imaan (faith). This is why I take every step with care, for any wrong step might take away this blessing from me. Ibn Taymiyyah said, “What can my enemies do to me? I have in my breast both my heaven and my garden. If I travel they are with me, never leaving me. Imprisonment for me is a chance to be alone with my Lord. To be killed is martyrdom and to be exiled from my land is a spiritual journey”.
Matters of heart are to be felt, not explained. Whether you are a person on a quest for truth, or an ignorant Muslim preferring whims and desires over the commandments of Allah, or someone who can still hear the cries of the inner self, but does not know how to respond, I invite you to the firm belief in oneness of God : Allah, and strict adherence to the illuminated path of his messenger : Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, and firm connection with the manual for your guidance : Qur’an. I invite you to this one and only path of inner gratification in this world, and success in the next one.
Oh Allah! Make us of those blessed ones who would hear: “O soul that art at rest! Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), so enter among My servants, And enter into My garden.” [3]
